According to the New Year poll of the BBC, a writing system for the residents of the Yemeni island of Socotra that was developed by Russian Orientalists has become the second greatest scientific achievement of the year out of a list of ten.
The new Socotri system is the direct result of years of research conducted by an Arabic language expert group led by Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies Vitaly Naumkin. It’s safe to say that this system will contribute to the rapid growth of education and culture trends on Socotra, including the development of local media.
According to Russian and foreign scientists, the results of this work clearly testifies to the high level of Dr. Naumkin’s scientific activities.
